FollowFriday and Signal Boosts #2 – Going Local

On the last Friday of October, I devoted that Thursday’s post to a #FollowFriday idea to promote certain people/places/pages I like–usually artisans of some kind. Because this month’s last Friday fell right after Thanksgiving, the schedule was a little mussed so November’s #FollowFriday signal boost post comes at the start of December.

Whoops.

First, I’d like to thank my first Patreon supporter. I’ve only just discovered the patronage, so will be sending her a special thank you later today. (I also need to update the Patreon page.) It’s nice to see that ball start rolling. If you enjoy Dear Jackrabbit and its regular updates, please consider supporting us. Not a requirement, mind you. I enjoy writing these and would be doing so anyway, but every little bit helps.

For this month’s #FollowFriday, here are some local holiday shopping opportunities to consider (links to Facebook pages included):

Blackstone River Theatre Holiday Craft Fair
Margaret and I hit conventions a few times a year–mostly to sell books at the Merry Blacksmith Press table in the dealers room. We have a couple of conventions planned for the coming year, but it looks like Jack’s first appearance as a “booth baby” won’t be at a science fiction or gaming convention, but at a local artisans show.

facebook_1480680216821We’ve taken part in the Blackstone River Theatre’s annual Holiday Craft Fair every year for the past five years or so. We sell Merry Blacksmith Press books, original watercolor artwork by me, and hand-made jewelry by Margaret. It’s one of those events we look forward to every year. There will be many other local artists and artisans present, and a variety of on-stage entertainment throughout the day including traditional Irish step dancing and music.

facebook_1480680164136You can help support your local Jackrabbit by checking this event out, and help support other local artists as well for the holidays. Always lots of good stuff here. The event is tomorrow, Saturday, December 3 at the Blackstone River Theatre in Cumberland, RI.

Always a good time. Hope to see some of you there.

I’m a big fan of tabletop gaming–particularly roleplaying games. You can only imagine how happy I was when Reality A Games opened up only a few miles from me here in West Warwick, RI. They sell board games, roleplaying books and supplies, used video games, collectable card games, and a whole lot more.

Every other Thursday they host a D&D game that Margaret and I both attend–often with Jack in tow. They host other games on other nights including more D&D, Magic the Gathering, and other roleplaying systems including one called Reality A created by the owners of the store.

Lots of gaming happening here.

You don’t find great gaming groups on Amazon. You find them at your local gaming store.

So the idea behind this month’s (November’s, that is), is to shop local–particularly for the holidays. It’s a good thing to do, whether you’re buying gifts for babies or the worn-out parents of babies.

Cheers!
